Embedded Image Compression Based on Fractal and Wavelet

چکیده

Fractal coding has great potential, and wavelet coding is the most efficient way. In this paper, an embedded image compression based on fractal and wavelet is proposed. The lowest frequency subband of wavelet domain is coded by fractal first, and the coding error and other sub-bands are coded by Binary Tree Coding with Adaptive scanning order (BTCA). The lowest frequency sub-band has very high energy and is easier to find similar blocks, so fractal coding can get higher compression ratio. The coefficients in the other sub-bands are almost small, so they can be coded efficiently by BTCA. The coding error by fractal is further coded by BTCA to raise the PSNR. Moreover, BTCA is improved by this paper to get better performance. Experimental results show that the proposed method raises significantly the coding speed and PSNR compared with the coding methods based on fractal, and improves PSNR while keeping the coding speed compared with the coding methods based on wavelet.
